After two days of racing in Vilamoura (South of Portugal), François Brenac and his french crew have won the Algarve Cup, an ISAF grade 2 event.

The french team beat the Illbruck Challenge team skippered by Morten Heriksen in the final, after beating Paolo Cian (Malscalzone Latino Challenge) in the semi final.

This is the first match race regatta for the illbruck Challenge team that has been training with coach and Match Race Team Manager Morten Henriksen. The team includes Henriksen on the helm, Gunnar Knierim on the bow, Arne Wilken trimming and Marc Pickel calling tactics.

The illbruck match race team will compete on the international circuit while the illbruck Volvo Ocean Race crew is competing in the around-the-world race. The match race team will be joined by Kostecki and other illbruck Challenge race crew as the schedule permits. Henriksen will continue in a coaching role with the illbruck race crew following the completion of the Volvo Ocean Race in June 2002 when the entire sailing team will then focus together on training for the America's Cup.
