 James Spithill wins the Blurimini Match Race (06/05/04)

It was a perfect day with sun and constant wind of about 13-15 knots and Australian skipper James Spithill, representing the Luna Rossa America's Cup challenge, defeated Great Britain’s Ian Williams 3-0 to claim the 6th Blurimini Match Race. The win was Spithill's second in Rimini.

In the best-of-three petit-final, Polish Karol Jablonski left nothing to chance and handily defeated italian sailor Matteo Simoncelli three races to zero to finish third.

Luna Rossa Challenge's James Spithill and Ian Williams are set to square off Saturday in the finals of the Blurimini Match Race.

The Australian
dispatched Poland’s Karol Jablonski 2-0, in today’s semifinals. Ian Williams had a bit of a tougher time advancing to advance as Italian Matteo Simoncelli pushed him to three matches in their first to two wins semi.

Earlier in the day, the ideal whether conditions (with the wind up to 14/18 knots) enabled the competitors to finish the last two flights from the round robin.

The home town hero, Matteo Simoncelli, is the sole occupant of the top spot on the leaderboard, at the end of the second day of the Blurimini World Match Race.

Making a strong comeback, after a poor performance of the first day, the australian James Spithill, now sailing for Luna Rossa Challenge, has moved up the ladder to share the second place with the British Ian Williams and they now looking strong for a semi-finals place.

With two flights remaining to be run tomorrow, the fight for the fourth place in the semi-finals is still open, giving Karol Jablonski, Mathieu Richard and Michele Ivaldi the chance to qualify for the semifinal round.

In a truly dominating performance on a perfect day on the waters of Rimini, undefeated British Ian Williams and his crew rolled off four straight wins to take control of the sixth Blurimini World Match Race, an ISAF Grade 2 regatta organised by the be Club Nautico Rimini.

Mathieu Richard and Matteo Simoncelli share second place, with a three win, one loss scoreline. poland’s Karol Jablonski also has three wins, but has two losses as well.

At two wins are five skippers, including Team NZ' Kelvin Harrap and Luna Rossa Challenge's James Spithill and Michele Ivaldi. It was a tough day for le défi skipper Philippe Presti, finished the day with only one win.

Teams will complete the round robin tomorrow , followed by Semi-finals for the top four. Finals and Petit Finals will be on Saturday.

Fresh from finishing the ACI HT Mobile Cup in Croatia, the match racers will come in Italy to contest the BluRimini Match Race (an ISAF Grade 2 regatta organised by the be Club Nautico Rimini) in Italy, from tomorrow to Saturday.

On board of the BLUSails ’24 Sport, it's a new occasion to see some of the present or potential participants in the America’s Cup, such as Karol Jablonski of Toscana Challenge, James Spithill and Michele Ivaldi of the new Luna Rossa Challenge, Philippe Presti of le Défi and many other match-race specialists.

The series featuring a round robin, in which all the skippers sail against each of the others.
The top four at the end of the rounds robin advance to the semifinals in a knock out series, first to score two points, with the two winners advancing to the finals which is also run on a knock out series, first to score three points, on saturday.
