The Italian helmsman Paolo Cian and his Italian Challenge Team defeated Great Britain’s Chris Law and his Outlaws, 2-0, in a thrilling three-match final to win the inaugural Jeep Challenge today in Porto Cervo.

In semifinal action, Le Défi's Pierre Mas put Chris Law to work. After winning the first match yesterday, Chris Law's Outlaws were beaten by Le Défi's Pierre Mas in the second race.

In the third match, however, Law used his years of experience to out-duel his opponent and advance to the final.

In the other semifinal, Italian Challenge's Paolo Cian had no problems in beating John Cutler and his Mascalzone Latino. In fact he won by 2 races to zero.

Today’s action began with the conclusion of round robin racing. Great Britain’s Chris Law and his Outlaws continued to dominate the competition and finished sit atop the leaderboard with four points.

In a massive comeback, Mascalzone Latino's John Cutler climbed up the rankings to place second in the round robin with three points.

The two other skippers competing in Jeep Challenge had frustrating days. Paolo Cian of the Italian Challenger and Le Défi's Pierre finished third and fourth respectivly with only two wins.

Today was the longest day of the regatta as the event organizers of Jeep Challenge moved up the start of Semifinals competition to take advantage of afternoon breeze on Friday.

In the first flight of the Semifinals, Chris Law defeated Pierre Mas and Paolo Cian dispatched John Cutler.

The program for the first day of the Jeep challenge was affected by lack of wind (around 6 knots of SE wind), so the first regattas, initially scheduled for 11:00, took place at 14:30.

Paolo Cian of the Italian Challenger team won the first match race, beating New Zealander John Cutler. The second match saw the French competitors of team Le Defi, captained by Pierre Mas triumphing over Englishman Chris Laws' Outlaws team. Law, however, went on to beat Paolo Cian in the third match.

The closely fought fourth match saw Pierre Mas' and John Cutler's boats reach the finishing line together. The victory was awarded to the French who then lost to Paolo Cian in the fifth match. The sixth and final match of the day has been won by Chris Law.

The provisional rankings show all the teams with two points except John Cutler, who has zero points.

A second round robin is scheduled to continue tomorrow with an attention signal slated for 11:00 a.m.

Great sailing returns to Porto Cervo in Italy for a the inaugural Jeep Challenge, a Jeep sponsored match race event hosted by the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda, from today until 13 th of June.

Four teams (in which three of the syndicates preparing for the 32nd America's Cup) will be participating including :
- the Italian team Mascalzone Latino headed by the New Zealander John Cutler,
- their fellow countrymen of Italian Challenge with Paolo Cian as skipper,
- the English of Outlaws with veteran British match racer Chris Law,
- the French Challenge Le Défi driven by Pierre Mas.

During three days of regatta, the competitors (a skipper and a crew of five) will compete in match races aboard the prestigious one design Farr 40.
