The World Number 1, twice world
match racing champion and member of Team Alinghi,
Ed Baird has confirmed his supremacy by winning
the MIMR 2005, his first regata wearing the Alinghi
colours.
As winner of the second stage round robin, got to
choose his adverary for the semi-finals. It was
a difficult call to make and his choice was Philippe
Presti, who he had beaten twice during the week.
Given the results in the previous rounds, all the
bets were on a Dickson / Baird final … but that
was forgetting a certain Mathieu Richard, World
Number 4 and best Frenchman in the regata.
After having "snuck in" to the second stage, and
then the top four, he managed what he himself called
"a great performance" by twice beating the New-Zealander
Chris Dickson in the semi-finals, in the end reaching
the second place on the podium.
