Alinghi announced the 2006 season
plans at a press conference in Lenzerheide, Switzerland
on Thursday 9 March.
The Swiss syndicate firstly indicated, with no surprise,
that the new boat SUI 91 will not be launched until
May and, for this reason, it will not be operational
for the first LV Acts.
"The building is well on the way", said Brad Butterworth,
vice-president, skipper and tactician. "The boat
will be launched in May but we don't use it for
the LV Act 10".
"Alinghi has got a new look", he also mentionned.
"So next time you see the boats they'll look a little
bit different!"
The new graphics will emerge from the shed with
SUI 64 and SUI 75 when the sailing begins on the
21 March in Valencia.
"This will be the start of a full year where we
intend to sail the two old boats and then bring
online the new boat sometime in May", concluded
Brad Butterworth. "We will be doing a lot of testing
and a lot of racing, the three Acts in May and June
being key times for us to see how we're doing versus
the challengers".
Meanwhile, the Swiss newspaper "La Tribune
de Genève" reported that the Team has
signed former Team New Zealand member Peter Evans.
He will working with the Afterguard of Alinghi.
