James Spithill has claimed his
second career victory on the World Tour with a 3-1
defeat of Thierry Peponnet in the final of the Brazil
Sailing Cup. Spithill lost the first race but won
the next three to claim the championship.
The two helmsmen of America’s Cup teams K-Challenge
and Luna Rossa Challenge, respectively, advanced
to the final with 2-0 victories over Gavin Brady
and Ben Ainslie, respectively. In the Petite Final,
Ben Ainslie beat Gavin Brady 2-0.
In the World Tour standings, Peter Gilmour continues
to lead with 48 points, but Ainslie’s 3rd in Brazil
jumps him up to 2nd overall, 3 points behind Gilmour.
Staffan Lindberg, placed 2nd entering the regatta
with 37 points, dropped to 3rd overall after failing
to score points when he finished 9th in the event.
