Two weeks before the competition
open, ACM was officially given the keys to the Port
America's Cup.
During this ceremony, the official representatives
of the three Spanish administration (the Central
Government, the Generalitat Valenciana and the City
of Valencia) expressed their satisfaction after
many long months of work.
Valencia is fully ready to welcome sailors and visitors
from around the world and, despite general concern
about the delays in construction, all competition
venues and infrastructures are now in place.
While people are worried the Cup could possibly
be the target of a terrorist attack, the security
measures were announced at the beginning of the
month and these envisage some 2,000 policemen on
almost constant watch.
In a typical battle of figures, the Zapatero's minister
Jordi Sevilla and the mayoress Rita Barberá have
marked the occasion with political debates about
the amount of money the Government will take in
but it's generally estimated that the direct investment
for the 32e America's Cup is about € 400 million.
An important investment that must be juxtaposed
with the estimated €700 million the syndicates have
spent to try to win the "Auld Mug" and with the
ACM's €230 million budget.
What could be debates, ACM and the Spanish authorities
have done all in their power to create "la mejor
America's Cup de la historia" as Jordi Sevilla said.
