If yesterday morning marked a
triumph for Valencia over the creation of a Formula
1 circuit, that success continued.
Just after midday, Francisco Camps, Rita Barberá
and Bernie Ecclestone were all invited to the Alinghi
base in the Americas Cup Port. Once there, the three
were informed by Ernesto Bertarelli, the President
of the Alinghi syndicate, that should Alinghi be
successful in its retention of the Americas Cup,
then he was in favour of staging the next Cup races
in Valencia.
He also added that in the case of Alinghi success
in defending the title, the races would take place
every two years instead of four currently, with
2009 being set in Valencia and 2011 in Dubai, giving
that country enough time to create the infrastructure
necessary for such an undertaking.
