A new Mascalzone Latino was once
more confirmed by Vincenzo Onorato after the encouraging
results obtained in Valencia.
"By comparison with the Auckland campaign,
we achieved a huge qualitative progress", he
said, before he proudly recited the list of the
assets which will allow Mascalzone Latino to win
the America's Cup in the future.
"An excellent crew which I confirm as a whole
and which should still increase. A technological
know-how. Jes Gram-Hansen in the role of starting
helmsman".
Considering these assests, there is no doubt for
Vincenzo Onorato that a new Mascalzone Latino will
be on the starting line for the 33rd America's Cup.
"Mascalzone continue. It's certain", he
said before he added that he thinks some evolutions
are requested to improve the quality of the event.
"I am sure that everybody agrees that that
spending limit measures should be taken", he
said and recommended "only one new hull, two
mast per boat and a quota of hours on the sea".
Meanwhile, the Napolitan sees as essential to wildly
rethinking the entire structure of the organisation.
"By only thinking about business goals, (the
organizers) lost the spirit of sailing", he
affirmed. "They unfairly compet with the challengers
in the run for sponsor. The result ? Three rich
teams and pain for the others. They announced an
annual profit of over 30 million euros with 400,000
for us. I don't think it's very sportsman like".
When asked which challenger will race Alinghi for
the 32e America's Cup, Onorato replied: "Oracle,
they are a step forward".
