BMW Oracle said it is examining
the new design rules to ensure they do not give
Alinghi an unfair advantage.
"The concern has always been about the defender
having several months lead-time ahead of challengers
to design and build a new boat, without anyone else
knowing what the design rules were," said Tom Ehman,
a spokesman for the Golden Gate Yacht Club with
represents Oracle.
"When our designers can verify that we are all starting
from the same point we hope to see all other issues
resolved quickly as agreed recently with the challengers,"
he added in a statement.
The establishment of the rules will allow the five
competitors who have signed up for the 33rd America's
Cup - Team Origin, Team Shosholoza, Team Germany,
Desafio Espanol and Team New Zealand - to start
working on the new boat.
According to Ehman, Oracle want to compare the new
boat design rules with "what they started out with
and we continue to ask Alinghi to provide this".
According to America's Cup Management chief, Michel
Hodara, the challengers are the offended ones and,
so, they are the best placed to respond.
