The Salón Náutico de Barcelona is the occasion for the Spanish Federation to get a fix on the America's Cup.

Hosting a press conference, Gerardo Pombo and Manuel Chirivella (respectively president and vice-president of the Real Federación Española de Vela) made no secret of the approach which leads to the creation of the Club Náutico Español de Vela (CNEV).

"The Valencian Authorities and ACM told us that, if Desafío Español become the Challenger of record, it could help Valencia to host the next America's Cup", said Manuel Chirivella.

"The CNEV was created to fulfill the mission of submitted the Desafío Español challenge", he added. "In no case it should compete with the classical clubs which perfectly performed their missions".
