+39 Challenge's brand new mast
came crashing down just before the windward mark
of today's second race.
The Italian team only stepped the mast in the boat
for the first time a few days ago. On monday, after
the shore crew and sailing team slaved feverishly
all day to get their brand new Version 5 mast ready
for competition, +39 Challenge went sailing in the
dark to test its new mast.
United Internet Team Germany also pulled out of
the race at the same time, and it is possible that
the two incidents are not unconnected.
After the race, +39 Challenge has filed a protest
against United Internet Team Germany, which in turn
has protested Areva Challenge.
